Ventilator Assessment

WHAT IS IT?

A ventilator assessment includes:


- Checking the sterile water is locked and loaded

- Documenting vent settings and measured values AND comparing them as the day goes on

- Patient Assessment

- Heater is working appropriately and set at the correct temperature

- Measured values are appropriate for that patient

- Vent setting are appropriate for that patient

- Moving the ETT

- Making sure ETT is secure

- Ventilator Asynchronies

- SBT and Extubation eligibility




PATIENT ASSESSMENT

Assessing the patient for:

- Work of Breathing

- Retractions

- Mucus Color and viscosity

- Tube position on CXR and in the mouth

- Comparing CXR's to search for improvement and titrate therapies accordingly.
